Notes Born in Ireland about 1837. At the time of his daughter Sarah's birth in 1869 he was a coalminer, but he is recorded as an Overman in the 1881 census. His widowed mother, Sarah, lived with the family at this time (she was then 72). In the 1891 census he was a Pit Sinker, living his wife and children Robert and Lizzie, plus John Arnott as a lodger. On daughter's marriage certificate is a Pit Fireman. In 1901 living at 1g West George Street, Coatbridge and was a Fireman in Muir. In 1909 when his wife died, his address was 15a West George Street, Coatbridge and was working as a Blast Furnace Labourer. After her death he seems to have moved in with his daughter's family at 89 Burnbank Street Coatbridge. From Death Cert: At 4 o'clock in the morning his body was found in the Monkland Canal near Victoria Iron Works. The cause of death was asphixia from drowning. He was aged 72.
