Notes On his daughter's baptism record, he was said to be a Tide Waiter. Later, on his daughter's marriage certificate, he was a Customs House Officer. He died before May 1838, as he is referred to as the "late Thomas Brayding" on this certificate. A Tide Waiter was a minor customs official who boarded incoming ships at Greenwich at high tide and made sure that they docked at an official jetty to ensure legal unloading of the cargo.
