Notes Born in 1822, baptised 4/4/1824 at East Wittering. Orphaned and brought up by an uncle who sent him to the fields to scare crows. He ran away to sea at the age of 12. Became the Captain of a sea-going Ship based at Shoreham Harbour. (Mate of Kingston, Master of Menodora, Neilly, Mary and Atrato). In 1871 census he was living at Adur Terrace, Southwick with his wife and six children. He was a Master Mariner.
