Notes There is no recorded memory of William, so he may have died in childhood. His Birth registration shows he has a second name of Stansfield, so his father would appear to be John Stansfield who is recorded as living in the same house as Lucy Olive Cocker and her three children in the 1901 census. William's second name suggests he was the father (and there is the possibility that John was also the unrecorded father of Frank and Mary). In the 1901 census, John is a widower, so why did he not marry Lucy? John's family from his wife, Sarah, also lived in the house, along with his son-in-law and granddaughter. Sarah died in childbirth in Jan-Mar 1895 (the child also died). At this time Lucy Olive would have been pregnant with Frank. During his working life, John worked for Carter's, the removal firm.
