Notes Born approximately 1851. In 1851 living at 4 Albert Place, Shoreditch, aged 9 months, so born in June 1850, and was born in St Luke's. In 1861 living at 35 St Compton Street. In the 1871 census he is aged 23 (though this cannot be correct as he was 20). He was a carman, out of employment and born in St Luke's. In the census of 1881 he is recorded as living with his wife, Louisa and children Martha, Mary, Peter and Louiza at 13 Ratcliffe Grove, St. Luke's in London. In 1891 census he is living at 19 Laxon Street with his wife and children; he is a Zinc Plate Worker and states he was born in Finsbury. In 1901 he lived at 6 Elim Street, Southwark. Was a Copperplate worker. Died in 1914 aged 63. Louisa Hazell recalls that when she went to visit her grandparents she remembers them going to bed in long white robes and wearing a traditional night cap. Echoes of Dickens.
