Notes Christened on 25/11/1821 at Queen Street Congregational Church, Sheffield. In 1841 living in George Street, Nether Hallam, Sheffield and was a Grinder. In 1851 census is aged 29 and was a saw maker, living with his father and his brother and brother's family. In 1861 census is a Saw Maker living at "back of 39 George Street" with his wife Rebecca and children. 1881 census shows him as a Widower, a Sub Postmaster & Stationer and aged 59, so born about 1822. Entered as "Gentleman" in marriage certificate of his daughter Edith (1885). In 1891 census he is living at 68 Langsett Road; he is a widower and is living with a servant (Beatrice ??, aged 15). White's Directory of Sheffield and Rotherham shows him as living at 68 Wood Street, Sheffield. The Sheffield Daily Telegraph of 24th June 1899 has this notice in its deaths column: "PICKFORD - On the 23rd inst., at his residence, Birley Carr, Mr Joseph Pickford, aged 77".
